Aaron Farrar secures 2nd at SQ's

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

Commodore of the GRCYC, Aaron Farrar beat out some highly fancied skippers on their own turf to finish 2nd overall at the South Queensland IOM Championships recently on the Gold Coast. It was only multiple National Champion and New South Welshman, Paul Jones giving Aaron some very close attention in the closing races that stood between Aaron and winning the event.

Sailed over 2 days at Paradise RYC, Aaron burst out of the blocks with two firsts in the first four races, signalling to the hot fleet that he was there to win. With previous title winning skippers Alan Walker and Brad Johnson sailing on their home waters, along with other title holders Greg Torpy from Manly and Doug Allen from the Sunshine Coast and Paul Jones, there was always going to be close, competitive racing.

28 competitors from all over South Queensland (and a few from Central Queensland) started in A-Rigs but soon downsized to B-Rigs to suit the stiffening breeze. Judging buoy roundings with the top mark quite a distance from the control area was always going to be interesting but most 'played' exceptionally nicely. The GRCYC is extremely proud of Aaron's efforts, travelling statewide and nationally regularly, competing at the highest levels and this 2nd placing against quality opposition is testimony to his commitment to the sport of RC Yachting.
