Our Commodore Qualifies!!!

Aaron Farrar, Commodore of the Gladstone Radio Controlled Yacht Club, has recorded enough Australian Rankings Points to be invited to represent Australia at the highly anticipated International One Metre (IOM) World Championships to be sailed here in Gladstone this October - and the club couldn't be any prouder.

Aaron, a former State Champion, qualified 6th in the ranking points for this championship, earning a place in the 12-person Australian team and one of the 76

Competitors who will descend on the harbour city from 20 other countries. "I’m incredibly proud to represent Gladstone and Australia in this little-known but highly competitive class of yachting,” said Aaron. “When I started radio sailing quite a few years ago, I never thought it would take me to a world championship, especially in my home waters.” However, Aaron is not only concentrating on racing at the World Championships but also has his hands full, being part of a small International One Metre World Working Group charged with organising the event.

“I knew once the word got out about this World Championship, we would get lots of local support because that’s what Gladstone locals do, but even still, we have been completely overwhelmed by the community spirit, especially the business community getting behind the event financially and with in-kind services.”

All six days of racing at the IOM World Championships 2024 will be live-streamed worldwide. This will allow fans and supporters from around the globe to witness the thrilling and close racing anticipated in the Gladstone Marina.
